Control what appears on your screen, keep some savings out of sight, and take your records with you. This page covers the controls; the privacy policy covers what is stored and who handles it.

The privacy screen

On Privacy & Safety, Turn on the privacy screen to mask every amount in the app with one tap: for someone looking over your shoulder, a borrowed phone or a shared screen. Amounts show as dots, including in search and Ask Nova’s replies; charts are blurred, and the month outlook is hidden.

• It is saved on this device only and never synced to your account, so nobody can see or switch it off remotely.
• Masking hides amounts on screen. It does not encrypt your stored records.

Quick exit

Leave now replaces Northwise at once with a weather search, and the Back button does not return to it. While the privacy screen is on, the same door icon sits in the top bar on every page. Quick exit does not erase your browser history.

Private goals

A private goal appears only on Privacy & Safety: never in Savings Goals, search results or transaction tagging, and never in what Ask Nova is sent. Give one a dull name and it stays yours.

• New private goal creates one.
• Hide an existing goal moves a savings goal here.
• Private goals are still included in your exported backup.

Protecting your account

Signed in, Settings › Security has:

• Manage authenticator: set up two-factor sign-in with an authenticator app.
• Reset password: sends a reset link to your account email, for accounts that sign in with a password.

Log Out is at the foot of Settings. Signing out does not delete your account or its records.

Export, clear and delete

All of these are in Settings › Data & Privacy.

Export data

Downloads a backup file (JSON) of everything loaded, including private goals and records from retired tools. Keep the file private.

Clear this device

Removes the records saved in this browser and signs you out. Records in your account stay.

Reset Demo Data

In local mode, replaces everything saved in this browser with the sample records.

Delete cloud account

Signed in: permanently removes your account and its records, and disconnects your banks. It asks you to have signed in recently. Export first.

Reminders

• Bill Reminders (Settings › Notifications) shows an alert in the app when a bill is due within three days.
• Manage delivery lets a signed-in account opt in to browser bill reminders and a weekly email check-in, where delivery is available. Browser reminders carry no amounts. Email delivery is not yet switched on.

Feedback and problem reports

Signed-in testers can use Send feedback, beside the menu and in Settings › Data & Privacy, to tell the Northwise team what worked, what broke or what you expected. It arrives with the page you were on, the app version and the browser type; your balances and transactions are not attached unless a screenshot you add shows them.

You can add up to three screenshots: choose Add a screenshot, or paste a picture into the box. A screenshot shows whatever was on your screen, so turn on the privacy screen (the eye at the top) before you take one if you want amounts hidden. Each picture is kept without its camera details or location, and only the Northwise team can see it.

When something breaks while you are signed in, the app also sends a short technical report, with amounts, account numbers and addresses blanked. Local mode sends neither.
